Trigance

Trigance (Var)

Located on a hillside, Trigance dominates the Jabron Valley. The village is at the foot of the mountain of Breis at 790 m. It is already included in 813 among the dependencies of the Abbey of Saint-Victor de Marseille. Today is a charming village which has preserved houses in white limestone. A theatre festival is held there annually in July. In the 13th century, the count of Provence there had rights.
  • To visit
The bridge of the Jabron with its three arches of the eighteenth century and the Saint-Roch Chapel deserve the glance. The chapel was built in the 17th century honored Saint-Roch, which protected populations of contagious diseases like the plague. Every year, on 16 of August, Saint Roch is celebrated as patron saint of the village.
The Church, built in the 12th century, then elevated, has kept a beautiful device of white limestone facade. The Bell Tower is a coating of glazed-coloured scales.
  • The Castle
The village is dominated by the remains of a vast fortress, perched on a rocky outcrop. Unfortunately, its restoration is unsatisfactory. The building is today transformed into a luxury hotel and restaurant. Inside, there are still beautiful vaulted rooms of the 14th and 16th centuries.
