MTB around Castellane and Saint-André-les-Alpes

If hiking are the most famous, such as the white-Martel Trail, there are many walks to go mountain biking. Some will be very easy, others will make you the greatest caution. Below walks depart from Castellane as well as Saint-Andre-les-Alpes, small town located 20 km from Castellane, and their surroundings.

Castellane and surroundings

Round of Destourbes

Ride 1: between 4 h 5 h, 19km, 435 m of vertical drop, hiking biking difficult (with a tricky descent in point 13 and 14), to avoid the summer between 2 pm and 4 pm, follow the white and red of the 13 to 15 points. Possible parking at Castellane.
Departing from Castellane take direction Cannes and after the bridge on the Verdon, immediately turn right in the direction of Robion.
1.    It passes near the swimming pool. Continue on the D102 direction Robion on 1.8 miles.
2.    At 1.8 km, at the intersection, two possibilities: you can either continue straight through the paved road (Variant) (m) for 6.5 km, either mount the small road on the left to further follow the Roman route. If you choose the road, this will prevent the Roman road steep and pebbly: in this case, refer to point 6 of the description below,
3.    In fourth lace road, take right uphill (M2) on the trail. On 800 m mounted (M3), then after a replat of 100 m the climb becomes even more painful (M4). Push the last 300 meters.
4.    At km 3.5, it begins a descent (D3) with some rocky passages 500 m after.
5.    The 4.1 km it branches off right on the trail that descends, crosses a ravine then goes back to join a D102 road at km 4.5. Follow this road uphill.
6.    700 m further, we find a source on the left of the road. Continue uphill (M2) to 6.7 km.
7.    Bifurcate climbing (M4) left, (at km 6.7 if we took the road) shortly before the hamlet of Saint Thyrs.
8.    At the end of this short climb, you arrive at a stony track one follows uphill (M1) on the left at the fork (7.1 km) turn left downhill (D1) followed after 300 m of a slight rise (M1).
9.    At the second fork (km 7.7) down to the left, the track goes further back (M4); one should wear his bike for 10 minutes.
10.    At km 7.9 (alt. 1 154 m), at the end of the portage, the path splits in two turn right towards the descent (D2), some rocky passages and stony, followed by a slight rise (M2), then new descent (D2) to the village of Eoulx.
11.    Cross the village (fountain, Castle) at 10.1 km and move on the village of La Garde by D132 (paved road) downhill (D2). The slight 13.3 km ascent (M2) on 400 m, before reaching the 15 km the village of guard.
12.    Cross the village; at the stop sign, turn downhill by the driving on 200 m.
13.    The 15.6 km you leave the road to go down (D2) by the GR 4 that starts shortly after the chapel of St. Sebastian on the corner of a chainlink fence.
14.    The 15.9 km a delicate passage, put foot ashore (ravine) and 200 m more far new delicate passage. Is wary of very unstable stony passages in the descent through the GR4. 16.5 km you cross the Campsite by a few natural stairs, and then we pass a bridge 100 m after.
15.    18.1 km you reach the road that descends to Castellane.

Demandolx Round

Ride 2: Between 3 and 4 h, 23km, 570 m of vertical drop, hiking biking hard, to avoid the summer between noon and 4 p.m., follow the white and Red markup between points 2 and 6. Possible parking at the junction of the D102 and the RN 85.
Departing from Castellane take Napoleon direction Cannes for about 2 km. Turn after a left dam Chaudanne by the D102, about 8 km to Demandolx turn.Ascent (M2) long enough.
1.    Cross the village of Demandolx and continue on the D102 almost to the col de Saint-Barnabé on another 4 km.
2.    Altitude 1335 (Panel) it will follow to right hand the GR4 following downhill (D2) until the guard.
3.    The GR4 accuses a slight rise after the passage of the ravine of Tang.
4.    La Garde, take the road Napoleon right to return to the starting point. By taking on the left you can reach Castellane by GR4 (D2). Attention to some difficult passages in the rocks (D3).

The Blaches Round

Walk 3: Between 4 and 5 h, 12km, 350 m of vertical drop, hiking biking hard, pay attention to the air path of items 7 and 8, follow the Red markup, possibility to park on the place de Castellane.
From the Centre of Castellane, take the direction of worthy northward.
1.    700 m further on, turn right towards the Cebiere uphill (M2) and (M3).
2.    1 km further on, leave the road to mount on the left. 300 m after the rise fades (M1) then leads 1.5 miles later at the D955 Cheiron-necked.
3.    The 3.2 km turn right on the D955 which climbs slightly down to 5.5 km.
4.    There should be monitored the steep in (M3/M4) climb on a track going right then left quickly. Follow it by pushing the bike, and then reach a replat.Mount a little.
5.    The path passes through a rock bar, descends (D2) meandering in an Oak Grove on 2 km and dates back to (M2). Several Rocky passages require to put ashore, and push the ATV.
6.    The 8.3 km one reaches a flat area where one goes down between huge boulders and large pines. Still down for 500 m.
7.    It then reaches the limits of the forest that we follow on the edge of the robines, (we see ruins left). Continue down on the other side by a footpath which winds (D3) (a few hairpin bends) and a few steps to the 10 km. It passes two ravines and felt it back then slightly to reach to a large building.
8.    Continue straight in the same direction by a trail which descends abruptly to lift in front and follow a restanque on a few hundred metres. It reaches the chapel Sainte-Victoire, then returns to Castellane by a road which descends right on 800 m, pass under the rock along the Verdon.

Tour of Chasteuil

Trip 4: 3 h, 13.0 km, 250 m of ascent, easy, but beware of the terraces, avoid the summer between noon and 4 p.m., follow the Red markup, possibility to park in the parking lot of the salle des fêtes of Castellane.
From the parking lot of the salle des fêtes of Castellane, take left in the direction of the road of the Gorges of the Verdon by D952 (M1).
1.    The 1.4 km turn right onto the climb in the direction of 'Glue'. The 2.1 km the road is more paved.
2.    4.4 miles on left the track, further tarred, to take on the left the GR4 (white and red markup). Risk of imbalance (narrow trail and terraces).
3.    At km 6, descend from mountain biking to pass the source that flows on the way. Mounted on 500 m in (M1/M2) to the oratory. (You can then visit the Saint-Jean Chapel.) Down (D2) on 500 m, then lift (M1) in the 400 metres.
4.    The 7.3 km one goes (D2/D3) 700 m (attention to the stony passages). Then there are rising (M1) over 200 m, and then again a descent into (D2/D3) 800 m.
5.    The 9.1 miles found a climb (M4) 200 m. push the ATV.
6.    The Chasteuil 9.3 km, one goes by the paved road that descends (D2/D3) about 2.5 km.
7.    One reaches the D952 following left on 9.1 km (M1) to join Castellane.

Pont de Soleil- Valcros Castle

Ride 5: Between 4 and 5 o'clock, 17.6 km, 430 m offset, difficult, attention to the Roman road from points 3 to 5, avoid the summer between noon and 4 p.m., follow the signposting of the ATV macaroons, Park place Castellane.
Departing from Castellane take direction Cannes and after the bridge on the Verdon, immediately turn right in the direction of Robion.
1.    It passes near the swimming pool. Continue on the D102 direction Robion on 1.8 miles.
2.    To km 1.8 at the intersection, two possibilities: you can either continue straight through the paved road (Variant) in (M2) on 6.5 km, either climb the small road left to further borrow the Roman road. If you choose the route, this allows to and bind the way Roman steep and stony: in this case, refer to point 6 of the description below.
3.    In fourth lace road, take right uphill (M2) on the trail. On 800 m mounted (M3), then after a replat of 100 m the climb becomes even more painful (M4). Push the last 300 meters.
4.    At km 3.5, it begins a descent (D3) with some rocky passages 500 m after.
5.    The 4.1 km it branches off right on the trail that descends, crosses a ravine then goes back to join a D102 road at km 4.5. Follow this road uphill.
6.    (700 m further, one finds a source on the left of the road.) Continue uphill (M2) to 6.7 km.
7.    Turn right onto the road of Robion D302. There, it is possible to take a look at the chapel Saint-Thyrs.
8.    It reached the village of Robion 8.1 km (source). Out of the village, climb 200 m further on the track (m2) right on 700 nor followed by a descent (D1).
9.    At the fork, 1.4 km after Robion down everything right on the forest track in (D2/D3).
10.    At km 10.8, at the big junction, take the track that descends to the left. It crosses two streams.
11.    The 12.5 km, one reaches the Valcros Castle
12.    At km 13.8, at the crossroads, we go down on the left and 200 m more in the intersection, again on the left below.
13.    The 14.9 km, you reach the D955 road. Follow it on the right downhill.
14.    At km 16.4, one reaches the intersection of the D955 and D952 rolls. From here, follow the D952 on 12 km. Down (D1). Sometimes a few passages (M1).
15.    Km 23.5, found a source on the left of the House.

Saint-Julien-du-Verdon circuit

Ride 6: 2-3 h, 15km, 305 m altitude, hard, attention to some difficult passages in the descent, avoid the summer between noon and 4 p.m., follow the yellow and then orange, possibility to park on the site of the village of Saint-Julien-du-Verdon.
Saint-Julien-du-Verdon, take the small road which joins the D955. Take the direction of Castellane on 4.5 km.
1.    At the level of the EDF city, at the intersection, come up Demandolx by the D102 on 3.5 km left. (M2)
2.    At an altitude of 1,040 m, turn left by a narrower road amount (M3) to the Clue
3.    At km altitude 1303 4.9 m, turn left (sign) and follow this trail which meanders through the broom to 6.3 km.
4.    You will reach a small collar (Panel). Go left down a small trail that zigzags (D2/D3) between the pines.
5.    This trail crosses a track at 7.6 km then continues to descend (D2) to join the 8.8 km the D955.
6.    It returns at the point of departure the D955 following right on 1 km.

Rise of the Baume

Walk 7: Between 3 and 4 hours 7.0 miles, 195 m of vertical drop, difficult, attention to the portage for points 2 and 3, and the passages delicate items 5 and 6. Follow the red, then from the point 5, the orange markup. Avoid the summer between noon and 4 p.m., possibility to park in front of the Gîte de La Baume.
The gîte d ' étape la Baume, from eastward in the direction of Mandaron, downhill (D2) site on the paved road about 300 m.
1.    At the level of an oratory, turn uphill (M3) left on a stony path bordered by a restanque. The route along the site of the Mandaron, mounted (M4) up to 1.3 km, then light replat on 400 m, robines at 1.7 km.
2.    At km 2, is the bike for about 10 minutes.
3.    Arrived at the pass continues northward (red markup) (D1/D2).
4.    700 m after a rocky passage requires to put ashore, and then along (after capture) a channel covered for about 1 km.
5.    This trail leads on a track that descends to a junction (Panel). Turn right onto a trail from the South. Further it shrinks and becomes a path that winds between the pines.
6.    Several steep passages including one before the captured source force to temporarily put ashore. The Trail opens to the hamlet of Blaron after a stint in robines (attention to the ruts).
7.    Village, you reach the balm passing beneath Mandaron (2.7 km) site on the tar.

Saint-Andre-Les-Alpes and its surroundings

Round of Courchons

Walk 8: Between 4 and 5 o'clock, 11.6 km, 770 m offset, difficult, attention to the porting of points 3 and 4, follow the yellow and avoid the summer between 12: 00 and 16: 00. Possibility to park in the centre of Saint-André-les-Alpes as the hotel Lake and forest 1 km more far in the direction of Nice.
Saint-André take the Nice on the D202 for 1 km. Immediately after the hotel Lac et Forêt right take the small road up to Courchons.
1.    Climb 7 km (M2).
2.    At the level of the oratory (alt. 1,310 m) the track descends slightly (D1) to the hamlet of Courchons.
3.    Before the sheepfolds of barns, turn uphill (M3) to the left. It passes in front of a source (wash and tank), portage necessary (M4), then it reaches the ruined Chapel.
4.    After the ruins follow the eastbound and down a small path which is quickly moving to the North to join after 2 km (D2/D3) the Rouchas farm.
5.    There it joined the track borrowed to go (about 2 km) that can be cut by a trail. Some stony passages in (D3). Remain cautious going downhill, because you can cross to hikers.

Tour of Angles

Ride 9: Between 2 and 3 h, 15km, 261 m of vertical drop, easy, but to avoid the summer between noon and 4 p.m., follow buttons ATV, possibility to park on the square of the Church of Saint-André-les-alpes.
Saint-André, from the place of the Church in the direction of the lower part of the village towards Méouilles (in front of the bakery) (D2).
1.    100 m after, lies on a small plot. Turn right (M1).
2.    At the crossroads, continue right along the tennis courts.
3.    Shortly after (1.1 km), cross the bridge over the Verdon and mount (M2) on the road 700 m.
4.    After a succession of (M2) and (D2), at km 3, left leave access to the discharge to mount (m3) on the track that runs along the power line. A few ravines passages sometimes require to set foot ashore.
5.    600 m after, it branches off left on a track furrowed (attention to the ruts) (M1). This track down (D2) and then rises (M2) up to 6 km. (You will cross a more important, to continue in the same direction track.)
6.    Ascent (M3) to the oratory. 1 km further down, one reaches the village of Angles (fountain).
7.    Go right down the D733 2.5 km.
8.    Turn right on the N202 for 2.5 km.
9.    The 11.4 km, leave the N202 in favour of a small amount left in the forest and road quickly joining a stony track (which is the departure of the Courchons circuit, circuit No. 8).
10.    At the crossroads of the slopes on the left found the indication pass of the coils on a wooden panel. Mount (even push the ATV) by this small trail 50 m and immediately turn right by the small trail of suffered through the forest (M2 and D2), crosses a small ravine which leads 2 km away at the col de Robines (km 13.2)
11.    The Col, down 1.5 km (D2) by the N202 to reach Saint-André.

Tour of Argens

Ride 10: Between 2 and 3 h, 9.5 km, 350 m offset, difficult, beware unstable descent between points 2 and 3, follow the yellow and Red points 1 to 3, possibility to park along the D955 road.
Climb the D34 on 3.7 km in the direction of Argens. Road (M2/M3) amount on a regular basis.
1.    Shortly before Argens, turn uphill to the left at the level of a large cross (runway Earth, yellow and muge). The trail follows the curve of level (D1) for 3 km.
2.    Exit the runway in favour of a more narrow path descending left abruptly (D3) at first, then more stony areas towards the end (put foot down if necessary).
3.    It joined the D955, that we follow left on 1 miles to find the starting point, shortly after the bridge.

The Mure tour

Trip 11: Between 2 and 3 h, 15 miles, 250 m of vertical drop, easy, however to descents to Swales, follow the ATV macaroons, Park square in the village of la Mure.
Shady square, climb to the corner of the building on the stony track on 800 m (m3). The slope then fades over 200 m, makes a bend to the left, then bypasses a field (100 m M3).
1.    The 1.5 km it passes the NFB (M2) string. The track turns north at 2.3 km and then the slope decreases.
2.    At km 3.5, you will reach a crossroads. Take the track left downhill.
3.    The 6.4 km new crossroads, turn left on the track that descends to ruins again.
4.    At 7 km, the track splits again, down to the right.
5.    The 8.7 km, like a long descent in (D3) (pay attention to the trenches to move smoothly), you reach the paved road. Down to the left (attention string) by 172 for 5 km until you reach Saint-André.
6.    Return to the Mure by the D955 on approximately 1.7 miles.

Grand Circuit of Moriez-Gevaudan

Walk 12: Between 5 and 6 o'clock, 13.5 km, 430 m offset, very difficult, follow the yellow, avoid the fall because of the mud and Park on the site of the village of Moriez.
The start is located below the village of Moriez.
1.    Pass under route 202, after the bridge down to the right, carefully cross the tracks. Cross Asse on the bridge, and then turn left onto the track. Follow the trail uphill (M2) for about 2 km.
2.    One reaches the farm of Saint-Firmin. The slope becomes less painful for about 1.5 miles.
3.    Arriving at a small flat area, found the indication Parrioune-Gévaudan (Panel). Follow the steep amount trail right on the crest (M4) 15 minutes (push the ATV).
4.    At the Summit, it branches off left by a trail marked little starting side and you will be in an area of robines.
5.    Then move to the edge of the forest to the Northwest and the trace of a trail that winds in the forest until you reach a forest track after 1.5 km downhill (D2).
6.    Cross the track to resume the path in front.
7.    We cut once new runway 700 m more far, then we left 600 m according to a path starting on the left, shortly after a forest cabin.
8.    Is reached via a forest trail that descends, then go back (after three kilometres of descent (D2) from the top of the course). There, leave the track and reach a stony (D3) trail on 600 m, which winds along a ravine to reach the hamlet of Gévaudan on the D946.
9.    Go down this road to reach the No. 202.
10.    Follow it right on a little more than 3.5 miles to join Moriez.

Lambruisse Round

Ride 13: Between 3 h and 4 h, 11.6 km, 436 m of ascent, easy, attention to the stony passages from 5 to 6 points, follow the yellow and Red bpwg to point 6, Park at the intersection of the roads of Lambrouisse and Thorame.
At the intersection of the roads of Thorame and Lambruisse Park his vehicle on the shoulder of the road. Continue straight to mountain biking in the direction of Thorame by the D2 to the hamlet of la Bâtie, on a little more than 4 km.
1.    Cross the bridge over the Issole. It joined the BPWG.
2.    1.5 km further on, after the built bifurcate uphill (M2) left by a road which leads to the chapel of St. Thomas. After the Chapel, the road is more coated, crosses two fields; the climb (M1) mellows.
3.    At 7 km, 1 km (M2) hilly climb.
4.    To the 8 km, the trail starts to (M2) to the mountain Seoune, and then on the opposite flank, (Tournon mountain) to achieve 2.3 miles after Sandhu-necked (alt. 1 314 m).
5.    Down by the BPWG (of the runway) for 1 km (attention unstable stones).
6.    Leave the WGIP to continue in the same direction always downhill.
7.    The 12.7 km the road is paved again. Cross Lambruisse, downhill (D2) 6 km until you reach the departure.
